Cementitious waterproofing

Cementitious waterproofing is a cement-based coating — usually a two-part mix of a powder and a polymer liquid — brushed or rolled onto the concrete or screed in bathrooms, kitchens, balconies and water tanks. It's the default in UAE wet areas because it bonds tightly to masonry, is straightforward to apply in two or more coats, and is safe against potable water, so it also lines drinking-water tanks. Its one limit is flexibility: a rigid cement coating can crack if the structure moves, so movement joints, wall-to-floor corners and pipe penetrations are reinforced with a flexible tape or switched to a flexible liquid membrane. Done properly it's applied in coats, left to cure, then flood-tested (the area is filled with water for 24–48 hours and the room below watched) before any tile goes down — skipping that test is how failures reach the finished bathroom. It's standard scope for a tiling and waterproofing team.
