If every tap dropped at once, check your apartment's main shut-off valve first — it may be half-closed. Then check whether it's hot-only (a heater issue) or both hot and cold. Building-side pump or tank maintenance is another common overnight cause.

A constantly running toilet is almost always a worn flapper/flush valve or a misadjusted fill valve in the cistern. Both are cheap, common parts — replacing the flapper fixes most cases and stops the wasted water.

Usual causes are a tripped breaker or thermostat, a failed heating element, or the heater simply switched off at its isolator. If the breaker trips whenever the heater runs, treat it as a faulty element and call a licensed electrician — don't keep resetting it.

Try near-boiling water, then a plunger, then removing and cleaning the U-bend (trap) under the sink, where grease and food collect. Avoid repeated harsh chemical drain cleaners — they damage pipes and rarely shift a solid blockage.

Usually a dry or blocked drain trap letting sewer gas up, or biofilm build-up. Pouring water down a rarely-used floor drain refills the trap and often clears the smell; persistent odours point to a venting or blockage issue.

Structural and supply-pipe leaks are typically the landlord's responsibility, while blockages caused by misuse fall to the tenant. Report leaks in writing promptly — delaying can shift liability for any resulting damage.
