Al Barari villa: how do we keep the water features and fountains clean and algae-free in the heat — and the pumps healthy?
Our Al Barari villa has the full works outside — a couple of fountains, a pond-style water feature in the planting, and irrigation everywhere. In this heat the feature water goes green and murky fast, and we get mosquitoes.

Ornamental water in this climate is a managed thing, not fill-and-forget — Al Barari's heat and planting make it work harder, but it's very controllable once you treat it as a system.
Movement is everything. Stagnant warm water is what goes green and breeds mosquitoes. Keep the pumps/fountains actually running so the water circulates and the surface moves — still water at 45°C is an algae-and-mosquito farm within days. A feature that's 'gone bad' is very often just a pump that stopped or a clogged filter letting it stagnate.
Filtration + treatment. The water wants a filter (kept clean — a blocked filter is the usual cause of murk) and periodic treatment made for a water feature, NOT pool chlorine chucked in (that wrecks pumps, seals and any planting or fish). Shade and the right planting also cut the algae load.
Mosquitoes specifically: moving water plus not letting any side-pools or saucers hold still water is 90% of it; for any standing ornamental water there are larvicide options safe for features. With this much water around a villa it's worth staying on top of — the dengue-carrying mosquito breeds in exactly this kind of clean-ish standing water.
Pump/filter upkeep: clean the filters on a schedule, make sure the pump isn't running dry or cavitating, and get seals/impellers checked before they fail — a seized feature pump in summer means green water within a day.
And yes — this is separate from your potable water tank. That tank is about health (sediment, biofilm, Legionella) and gets a proper tank clean and disinfection; the ornamental water is about clarity, circulation and mosquito control. Different jobs — don't mix the chemicals.
For a villa with this much water in Al Barari, the sane approach is a periodic service of the whole water side — pumps, filters, treatment and a check of the standing-water spots — rather than reacting once it's already green.
