Emirates Hills villa: the pool plumbing and outdoor water systems need attention — what's actually involved?
Our Emirates Hills villa has a pool plus a lot of outdoor water — irrigation, water features, outside taps. Lately: the pool circulation feels weak, we seem to be topping up more than we used to, and the pump sounds like it's working hard.
I don't know where the pool "plumbing" ends and the "pool company" or electrics begin, so I'm not sure who to call.
So: - What do the pool plumbing and outdoor water systems actually involve on a villa this size? - Are weak circulation / extra top-ups / a straining pump plumbing issues? - How do these connect to the pool electrics without me getting shocked or overcharged?

On a villa like yours the pool and garden are a water SYSTEM, and most of what you're describing is plumbing, not the pool shell. Weak circulation, extra top-ups and a straining pump nearly always trace to the filter, a valve, air in the lines or a hidden leak — cheap to find, expensive to ignore.
How it breaks down: - Weak circulation: usually a dirty/blocked filter or a valve set wrong, sometimes air being drawn in on the suction side. The pump then works harder for less flow — which is your "straining" noise. - Topping up more than before: that's water loss. A bit is evaporation in the Dubai heat, but a steady creep points to a leak — a fitting, a pipe run, or the balance tank — found with pressure testing, not guesswork. Chasing the leak beats paying for water and chemicals forever. - Outdoor water: irrigation, features and outside taps share the same story — valves, pressure and hidden line leaks.
Where plumbing meets electrics: the pipes, pump wet-end, filter and valves are plumbing; the pump motor and any pool/garden circuit is electrical and, near water, safety-critical. Get the water side checked and pressure-tested by a plumber in Dubai who does villas, and have the electrical side (RCD protection, IP-rated fittings, bonding) confirmed by a licensed electrician — those two coordinate, but don't let one company hand-wave the other. There's a good separate thread on exactly the pool and garden electrics safety side.
The 'topping up more' one is the tell. Mine crept up for months and everyone blamed evaporation — it was a weeping underground fitting. A pressure test found it in an afternoon. If your top-up rate has genuinely increased versus last summer, push for a leak test before anyone talks about resurfacing the pool.
Worth knowing the isolation valves matter here — on a big system you want to be able to shut off the pool, the irrigation and the features separately (see gate valve). If everything's on one line with seized valves, every small repair means draining half the garden. Getting the valves serviced/labelled makes future fixes far cheaper.
