PEX piping
Also called: cross-linked polyethylene, pex pipe, plastic plumbing pipe
PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) is a flexible plastic pipe widely used for hot- and cold-water supply in newer UAE apartments and villas because it resists scale, doesn't corrode like older galvanised steel, and bends around corners with far fewer joints to leak. It's colour-coded — red for hot, blue for cold — and joined with crimped or push-fit fittings rather than solder. It isn't for everything: PEX shouldn't sit in permanent direct sunlight, and it needs the correct fittings, so a botched DIY join is a common cause of hidden leaks. Any banging that follows a new install is usually water hammer, not the pipe itself.
