A check code (also called a fault code or error code) is how an air conditioner tells you which area has faulted — a temperature [sensor], the indoor↔outdoor communication, a pressure/protection trip, the [compressor], the drain, and so on. It's the unit's built-in self-diagnosis, and reading it FIRST is what stops a technician — or you — from guessing and swapping the wrong part. How it's shown depends on the brand and model: an alphanumeric code on the indoor display or the wired remote/controller (Daikin, LG's CH codes, Samsung, Haier's E/F codes…), or a pattern of LED / timer-light blinks you count on simpler wall-splits (O General, Hitachi, some Carrier). Two rules make the code useful rather than misleading: (1) it's brand- and model-specific — the same code can mean different things across makers and even product lines, so match it against that unit's own manual or support list, not a generic online table; and (2) note the exact code before you clear it (photograph it), because a code that keeps returning after the safe basics (clean the filters, check the outdoor unit, power-cycle at the isolator) is a real fault.
