MR-MDF (moisture-resistant MDF)

Also called: mr-mdf, moisture-resistant mdf, mr mdf, green mdf, moisture resistant board

MR-MDF is moisture-resistant medium-density fibreboard — MDF treated (and usually tinted green to identify it) so it resists swelling from humidity and the odd splash far better than standard MDF or chipboard. In the humid UAE it's the sensible mid-spec for fitted-kitchen carcasses, wardrobes and vanities, where ordinary board swells and crumbles once damp gets in. It's not as bulletproof as marine/exterior plywood if it's actually soaked (a real under-sink flood will still damage it), so the best practice is plywood for genuine wet zones and MR-MDF for the rest — and either way, the cut edges must be sealed/edge-banded, because raw edges are where moisture gets in first. Specifying MR (not standard) MDF and sealed edges is the difference between a carcass that lasts and one that swells in a humid room — worth confirming with a joiner who quotes the material honestly.
