Spacer bar (warm-edge / desiccant)

A spacer bar is the perimeter frame that holds the two panes of an insulated glass unit apart at a fixed distance, seals the gap, and carries the desiccant — a drying agent that absorbs any trace of moisture so the sealed cavity stays crystal clear. It's a quietly critical part: when the spacer's seal fails and the desiccant saturates, the unit fogs permanently between the panes. The material matters too. Traditional spacers are aluminium, which conducts heat readily and creates a cold/hot bridge right at the edge of the glass — exactly where you then get edge condensation and heat loss. 'Warm-edge' spacers swap that for low-conductivity materials (stainless steel, plastic composites, foam), which measurably improve the window's U-value and cut the condensation that forms around the glass edge — worth specifying in Dubai, where the temperature difference across the glass is huge. It sits alongside the low-E coating as one of the details that separate a cheap sealed unit from a good one; getting it right is part of a proper glass works in Dubai specification.
