Al Barari residents — does all that greenery make the humidity (and AC load) worse indoors?

Al Barari's whole appeal is the lush green landscaping — but I've noticed the homes here feel more humid than a typical Dubai villa, the AC seems to run harder, and the units produce a lot of condensate. It got me wondering whether all that greenery creates a damper microclimate that the air-conditioning then has to fight.

This is more than the general Al Barari villa upkeep point — I mean specifically the cooling and humidity side:

  • Does dense planting/irrigation genuinely raise local humidity and therefore AC load?
  • Is that why there's so much condensate and occasional mould/damp smell?
  • How do you manage the latent (humidity) side — dehumidification, RH control, servicing — without losing the comfort or the greenery?

Keen to hear how heavily-planted-villa owners keep the inside dry and comfortable. Is the green microclimate real for AC?

Short answer: yes — dense, irrigated landscaping does raise the local humidity around a home, and that shifts more of the AC's job from cooling the air (sensible load) to wringing water out of it (latent load). That's exactly why you notice more condensate and the occasional damp/mould smell. The fix isn't less greenery — it's making sure the AC is set up to dehumidify, and staying on top of the condensate and RH.

What's actually going on: - Latent vs sensible load: all that evapotranspiration from plants and irrigation puts moisture into the air. Your AC has to remove that moisture as well as heat, so it runs longer and drips more — the condensate volume you're seeing is literally the humidity being pulled out. - Why the damp smell: more moisture through the unit means a wetter coil and drain pan — a perfect mould breeding ground if the drain and coil aren't kept clean.

How to manage the humidity side: - Let it dehumidify: an AC that's oversized or short-cycling cools fast but never runs long enough to dry the air, leaving it cold-but-clammy. Correct sizing and avoiding short-cycling matter more here than anywhere. - RH target: aim to keep indoor relative humidity roughly in the 50–60% comfort band; persistent higher RH is where mould and that muggy feel come from. - Condensate + coil hygiene: with high latent load, the drain and coil need cleaning on a tighter schedule, and the drain must run freely (more water = more chance of a backed-up, smelly line). - Dedicated dehumidification in the worst rooms if the AC alone can't hold the RH.

So the greenery microclimate is real, but it's manageable: keep the RH in band, keep the condensate side spotless, and run kit that actually dehumidifies. Not Al Barari but a heavily-planted garden villa, and the clammy-inside thing was real until we sorted the AC. The fix that helped most was stopping the units short-cycling — before, they blasted cold then cut out and the air stayed damp; once they ran proper longer cycles they actually dried the place out and it felt far more comfortable at the same temperature. So the "it's humid" complaint was partly a "the AC isn't running long enough to dehumidify" problem. Worth checking that before buying dehumidifiers.

The condensate point is the one to watch with lots of greenery around — more humidity means the drains work overtime, and if they clog you get the damp smell and even overflow much sooner than a dry inland villa would. Keeping the condensate drains flushed and clear seems to be a bigger deal in green, humid spots. Basically the lush setting is lovely but it makes the AC's water-handling side work harder, so don't neglect it.
