Distribution board (DB)
Also called: db, consumer unit, electrical panel, breaker box
The distribution board (DB, or consumer unit) is the panel — usually by the front door or in a utility cupboard — where your home's incoming supply is divided into individual circuits, each protected by its own MCB. It's where you go when a breaker trips: a properly labelled board makes it obvious which circuit (kitchen, AC, sockets) has the fault. A well-set-up UAE board also has one or more RCDs protecting the wet-area and socket circuits. If yours is unlabelled, overcrowded, or shows scorch marks or a burning smell, that's not a DIY job — have a qualified electrician inspect it.
