Door gasket (appliance seal)

Also called: door seal, fridge gasket, oven door seal, freezer seal

A door gasket is the flexible rubber/magnetic seal that runs around a fridge, freezer or oven door. It's one of the cheapest parts in the appliance and one of the most overlooked — when it hardens, tears, or loses its magnetic grip, the door stops sealing and cold (or heat) leaks out continuously. The result is an appliance that runs non-stop and still drifts warm (fridge/freezer), or an oven that bakes unevenly and wastes gas/electricity. There's a two-second test: close the door on a sheet of paper or a banknote — if it slides out with no resistance, the gasket has failed. Replacing a gasket is a fraction of the cost of the compressor or heating element people often blame first, which is why a failing seal is worth ruling out early. For commercial gear especially, a perished gasket also risks failing a hygiene/temperature check — worth a kitchen-equipment technician sorting before it costs you a bigger part.
