Water Chiller Service

FCU (Fan Coil Unit)

Also called: fan coil unit, fan-coil, fcu unit

In a chilled-water or district-cooling building there's no outdoor condenser for each home; instead every room or zone has a fan coil unit (FCU) — a coil fed with chilled water from the building or district plant, and a fan that blows room air across it to cool it. It usually hides above a false ceiling behind a grille. The key UAE point is the split of responsibility: the building or provider maintains the central plant and the chilled-water supply, but you maintain your own FCU — its filter, coil and drain pan. A neglected FCU is the usual reason a chilled-water flat cools weakly or develops that musty vent smell, and its condensate drain is a common cause of a ceiling drip. Keeping your in-home FCU serviced is the single most useful thing a district-cooling resident can do.
