Gypsum board (plasterboard / drywall)

Gypsum board — also called plasterboard or drywall — is a panel with a gypsum plaster core faced in paper, fixed to a metal or timber frame to form partition walls, false ceilings and linings. It's fast, light and easy to finish, which is why it's the standard for dividing and lining spaces. The GRADE matters: standard board for ordinary dry rooms; moisture-resistant (MR/'green') board for bathrooms, kitchens and other damp areas; fire-rated board where fire resistance is required; and acoustic/dense board where you need to block sound in a partition. Boards are taped, skim-coated and painted. Using the wrong grade — standard board in a wet or fire-rated location — is a common, avoidable mistake; a gypsum and partition specialist specifies the right board per room.
