An inverter air conditioner uses variable-speed electronics to run its compressor at whatever speed the room actually needs, instead of the older fixed-speed design that only knows full-blast ON or fully OFF. A fixed-speed unit cools by switching the compressor on at 100%, overshooting the setpoint, switching off, and repeating — so the temperature swings and every restart is a hard, high-current jolt. An inverter instead ramps the compressor up and down, holding a steady output that matches the heat load: it runs longer at a lower speed rather than cycling hard.
