SEER / EER (AC efficiency ratings)

SEER and EER both rate how much cooling an air conditioner delivers per unit of electricity — the higher the number, the cheaper it is to run — but they measure it differently, and knowing which is which stops you comparing apples to oranges. EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) is measured at a single, fixed high-temperature full-load condition — a snapshot of efficiency on a hot day (BTU/h of cooling per watt drawn). SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) averages efficiency across a whole cooling season, accounting for milder part-load hours, so SEER is normally the higher-looking number. For the long, hot UAE season the everyday-running efficiency is what drives your DEWA bill, which is exactly why an efficient inverter or VRF unit that modulates instead of blasting flat-out saves money over the year. When you compare two units, compare like with like (EER to EER, SEER to SEER) — and remember a high rating only pays off if the unit is also correctly sized and serviced. Matching an efficient, right-sized unit to your space is what a proper AC sizing and selection assessment is for.
