VRF / VRV (variable refrigerant flow)
Also called: vrf, vrv, variable refrigerant flow, variable refrigerant volume
VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) — Daikin's trademark VRV is the same technology — is an advanced AC system where one outdoor unit serves many indoor units, continuously varying how much refrigerant flows to each based on that room's real-time demand. It sits between simple multi-splits and full ducted central AC: you get individual room control and high (inverter-driven) efficiency — only cooling what's actually in use — with far fewer outdoor condensers cluttering a large villa or office than a bank of separate splits. In the UAE it's common in bigger villas, offices and boutique buildings with lots of zones. The trade-offs are a higher upfront cost and more specialised servicing than basic splits, so it earns its keep where you have many rooms to control efficiently rather than a small flat. Speccing and servicing it is a specialist AC installation matter.
