KNX (smart-home standard)

KNX is the leading open international standard for home and building automation — a wired control system where a dedicated low-voltage bus cable links switches, lighting, blinds, HVAC, sensors and more so they can all talk to each other. Because it's an open standard, kit from different manufacturers interoperates, and because it's wired and doesn't depend on Wi-Fi or the cloud, it's reliable and scales cleanly to a whole villa — which is why it's the professional choice for serious smart-home installs here. The catch is the cabling: KNX is far cheaper and easier to install when the walls are open (a new build or major renovation) than to retrofit into a finished home, and it costs more upfront than plug-in Wi-Fi smart devices (which are cheaper and DIY but network-dependent and less robust at villa scale). Designing and wiring KNX is a licensed electrician / automation specialist's job.
