Three-phase power

Three-phase power delivers electricity on three live conductors (phases) instead of the single live of a normal domestic (single-phase) supply. It's used where the total electrical load is large — big villas with multiple ACs, pool plant, EV charging and a large kitchen, and most commercial premises — because three phases carry far more total capacity, and some heavy equipment (large motors, big AC) runs directly on three-phase. The key concept for homeowners is load balancing: the home's circuits are spread across the three phases so each carries a roughly equal share; a badly unbalanced load runs one phase hot and wastes the capacity you're paying for.
