Tile levelling system

A tile levelling system is a set of clips and wedges (or caps) fitted between tiles as they're laid; tightening them pulls adjacent tiles flush and holds them there while the adhesive cures, then the clips snap off. Its job is to prevent lippage — the uneven edges or ridges where one tile sits proud of its neighbour, which you feel underfoot and see in raking light. Levelling systems matter most for large-format tiles and wherever a perfectly flat substrate and full adhesive coverage are hard to achieve — though they don't replace good substrate prep: a bad, uneven base still has to be corrected first. For a flat, lippage-free finish on large porcelain or stone, a tiling specialist uses these as standard.
