Tilt-and-turn window

A tilt-and-turn is a window with a dual action operated by a single handle: turn the handle one way and the sash tilts inward at the top (a small, secure gap for ventilation you can leave while you're out); turn it the other way and the whole sash swings fully inward like a door for maximum opening and — the standout benefit — easy cleaning of the outside of the glass from inside the room, which is a big deal several floors up. It's popular in quality aluminium window systems because it also seals and insulates well (compression seals all round) and is secure. The trade-off vs a casement or sliding window is that it opens into the room, so it needs internal clearance (nothing on the sill in the way).
