Busbar

Also called: bus bar, busbars, db busbar, distribution bar

A busbar is a solid metal bar — usually copper or brass — inside a distribution board that carries the incoming supply and distributes it to every circuit breaker on the board. Rather than run a separate cable to each MCB, the breakers all clip onto and tap off the common busbar; there are separate busbars for live, neutral and earth. It's a part you never see, but it matters for one reason: a loose breaker-to-busbar connection is a classic cause of overheating and scorching in a board. That junction carries the full circuit current, so if it isn't tight it heats up, discolours, and can cause intermittent faults or, worse, a fire risk. The warning signs are a warm or discoloured breaker, a faint burning smell at the board, or a circuit that cuts in and out. Because the busbar stays live even with individual breakers switched off, this is firmly a job for a licensed electrician in Dubai, not a DIY inspection. Standards bodies such as NEMA set how these boards and busbars are built and rated.
