How do I read the error code on a Hitachi AC — the timer light is blinking a number of times?

On most Hitachi wall-splits there's no alphanumeric display — the fault IS the blink count on the indoor unit's timer light. Here's how to read it, and first, how to tell it's even a fault.

Normal vs fault: a steady blink once per second (or the light coming on for a few minutes at start-up, or for a spell every hour or so in winter) is just warm-up / defrost — not an error. A fault flashes a set number of times, pauses, and repeats — that repeating count IS the code.

Reading it: count the flashes in each group. Then match that count to your model's list — and this is the important part: Hitachi's blink→meaning table is model-line specific (a domestic wall-split reads differently from a Utopia/VRF system on a wired controller), so use Hitachi's own documentation for your unit (their AC site) rather than a generic online table.

The categories you'll hit are the usual ones — a communication fault between the indoor and outdoor units (interconnect wiring or a PCB), a PCB / EEPROM fault, or a sensor fault. Comms and PCB faults are a technician job — mains wiring and boards.

Safe to check first (the mild ones): clean the filters, make sure the outdoor unit isn't blocked or sitting in recirculated hot air, and power-cycle at the isolator for a few minutes to clear a transient fault. If the same count comes straight back, note it (photograph the blinks) and book AC repair and maintenance rather than resetting it repeatedly.
