How do we keep a Super General AC running well in Dubai, what maintenance actually matters?
We've got Super General ACs in a villa and I want to keep them running well rather than only calling someone when one struggles. It's a common, affordable brand here, so what maintenance actually matters on these, what can we do ourselves, and what genuinely needs a professional? Trying to get good years out of them and avoid weak cooling in summer.

Good approach, and the honest answer is a Super General looks after the same as any split here, the brand isn't the variable, the maintenance is. Owner-doable and high-impact: wash the filters every couple of weeks in peak dust (a clogged filter is the number-one cause of weak cooling and icing), keep the outdoor unit clear of dust and obstruction, and watch that the condensate drain runs freely so it doesn't block and drip. Leave to a pro: the annual deep coil and drain clean, any refrigerant issue (low gas means a leak, not a top-up), and electrical faults. These units are perfectly serviceable and last fine if maintained; where people get burned is treating an affordable unit as disposable, skipping servicing, and then blaming the brand when a filthy coil under-cools. So it's frequent filter cleaning plus one proper AC cleaning in Dubai service a year, that combination is what keeps them efficient.
We run Super General across a few units and they're fine if you service them. The ones that died early were the ones a tenant never cleaned and nobody serviced. Fortnightly filters in summer and an annual clean and they keep going. Cheap to buy doesn't mean disposable, it means maintain it like anything else.
