A glass panel has a chip and another is starting to fog up, is glass repair a real thing or does it always mean replacement?
One of our glass panels has taken a chip, and separately a double-glazed unit is starting to fog up on the inside where I cannot clean it. I assumed both meant full replacement, but someone mentioned glass repair as if it is a real option. Is glass repair genuinely a thing for chips and fogging, or does it always end up being replacement? Trying to work out whether I am looking at a small fix or a big bill before I call anyone.

Glass repair is genuinely a thing for some issues and not for others, so it is worth knowing which of yours is which before you assume a big bill. On the repairable side: minor chips and light surface scratches can often be repaired or polished out rather than replacing the pane, and a unit that is just loose, rattling or draughty is usually a reseal or re-fit job, not a new one. Your fogged double-glazed unit, though, is the classic case that does need replacement: the fog means the seal on the sealed insulated unit has failed and moisture has got between the panes, and once that seal is gone it cannot be restored, so that pane is replaced, but importantly you replace the failed glass unit, not necessarily the whole window or frame, which keeps the cost down. A cracked pane is also a replacement. So your chip may well be repairable and the fogged unit is a replace, but likely just that pane. The sensible first step is to have a glazier assess both rather than guessing. Get it looked at, it is often less than you fear.
We had exactly this, assumed full replacement for a fogged unit and it was just the glass unit swapped, the frame stayed. The chip on another window they polished out. Way less than the full-window quote I had feared. Get it assessed, do not assume the worst.
