Umm Suqeim villa owners — the salt air is wrecking our window and glass fittings, what actually lasts here?
We're in a villa in Umm Suqeim, close enough to the sea that everything metal seems to suffer. The window handles and hinges are corroding, some of the rubber seals have gone hard, and the sea-facing glass films up quickly. Is there anything that genuinely holds up better in this coastal spot, or is constant replacement just the price of living near the beach? Trying to spend once on the right thing rather than keep patching.

Coastal exposure like Umm Suqeim's doesn't call for different windows so much as the right hardware, coatings and upkeep, because salt attacks the weak points first. Salt-laden air corrodes untreated or lower-grade aluminium fittings, perishes rubber seals and etches glass over time, so the fixes that last are: marine-grade or properly powder-coated/anodised hardware and frames, better-quality gaskets, and a rinse-and-service habit that stops salt sitting and doing its work. Replacing like-for-like with the same cheap fittings just restarts the clock. On sea-facing glass, decent coatings and regular cleaning slow the filming. The frames themselves are usually fine, it's the handles, hinges, rollers and seals that go, and those are serviceable and upgradeable without replacing whole windows. Get glass works in Dubai that understands coastal villas to spec corrosion-resistant hardware and reseal what's perished, rather than a like-for-like swap that fails again in a year. A periodic freshwater rinse of the frames and tracks genuinely extends everything's life here.
Same battle a few streets back from the water. The thing that helped most was upgrading the hinges and rollers to better-grade ones and actually rinsing the tracks now and then. The cheap fittings we started with were rusted within a year.
