Office / shop glass partitions and shopfront glazing — what actually drives the cost of a commercial glazing job?
Fitting out a commercial space and need glass partitions plus some shopfront glazing, and the quotes vary a lot. I want to understand what actually drives the cost of a commercial glazing job so I can judge whether I'm being quoted fairly and where I could sensibly save without cutting corners on safety. What are the real cost factors on office and shopfront glazing here?

Commercial glazing pricing tracks the spec and the engineering, not a flat rate per panel. The drivers are: the glass type and safety spec (toughened or laminated, and the thickness needed for the panel size, larger panels need thicker glass), the framing system (a frameless look with patch fittings and toughened glass costs more than a framed system), the panel sizes and site access (big, heavy units and awkward access mean more labour and equipment), whether doors, locks and ironmongery are included, and any structural support a large span or a glass door needs so it doesn't sag. The place to save sensibly is the framing choice and standardising panel sizes, NOT the safety spec, in a commercial space that's non-negotiable and often inspected. So get each quote to itemise glass spec, framing, doors/ironmongery and any support separately. Speccing it properly with Al Ghubaiba's maintenance team on a like-for-like basis is how you compare fairly, ask specifically what safety glass and thickness each quote assumes.
