Wall cracks keep coming back after painting — how do I stop them for good?
Every time I repaint, the same hairline cracks come back within months — usually near door corners and along ceiling joints. Filling and painting clearly isn't enough. How do I actually stop them coming back?

Cracks that keep returning in the same spots are movement cracks, not paint failure — so filling the surface and painting over never lasts. What's happening:
- Door/window corners crack because stress concentrates there.
- Ceiling and wall joints (especially gypsum board) move with temperature and settlement.
To fix properly: 1. Rake the crack open slightly rather than skimming over it — you need filler in it, not on it. 2. Use a flexible/elastomeric filler, not just gypsum powder, so it moves with the wall. 3. On gypsum-board joints, embed jointing tape or fibreglass mesh over the joint before skimming — that bridges the movement. 4. Prime the repair, then paint.
If a crack is wide, growing, or runs diagonally across a wall, that can indicate structural movement — get it looked at rather than just filled. For the cosmetic ones, painting services in Dubai will rake, fill, mesh-tape and repaint so they stop reopening.
The mesh tape on gypsum joints was the missing step for me. Filler alone kept cracking; tape plus flexible filler finally held.
For anyone doing this as part of getting a place ready to rent or sell: fixing recurring cracks PROPERLY (rake them out, flexible filler, tape on gypsum joints, then repaint) is exactly the make-good that pays off, because a fresh neutral repaint over sound walls is the highest-return refresh there is.
