Summer AC prep checklist for UAE apartments (before the peak heat)

DubaiFix TeamStaffStaffPosted 30 Jul 2026122 views

Before the worst of the heat lands, a little AC prep saves a mid-summer breakdown (and a chunk off the DEWA bill). Here is the community shortlist — add yours below.

  • Clean or replace the filters — the single biggest one. Do it now, then monthly through summer.
  • Clear the outdoor unit — give the condenser breathing space and rinse off the dust; never box it into a sealed cupboard.
  • Flush the drain — clear the condensate drain so it does not back up and drip once the unit runs all day.
  • Test it early — run it cold for 20 minutes now. Far better to find a fault in a comfortable week than in a 45C one.
  • Book a service if overdue — if it has not been serviced in 12 months, get the coil cleaned and gas checked before peak season, when every technician is booked solid.

What is on your list?

Would add: check the thermostat batteries and the remote. Sounds daft, but I have twice thought the AC broke down and it was just a dead remote. Also close the vents in rooms nobody uses so you are not cooling empty space.

Solid list. From the trade side, the number one avoidable summer call-out is a blocked drain plus a filthy filter — both free to prevent. If you only pay for one thing, make it a pre-summer coil clean: booking a full AC service before the rush means you are not waiting three days in the heat for a slot when it finally gives up.
