One handyman for everything, or separate specialist trades — when is a handyman actually the right call?
We've got a running list of small jobs, a shelf to mount, a door that sticks, some sealing, a couple of fixtures to swap, and I can't tell whether to get one handyman to blitz the lot or call separate specialists. When is a handyman genuinely the right choice, and when should I insist on a proper specialist trade instead? Don't want to under-do a safety job or over-pay a specialist for something trivial.

The decision is really about which BUCKET each job is in, and most home lists are a mix of both. A handyman is the right call for the pile of small, varied, non-specialist jobs, mounting and hanging, patching and touch-ups, sealing, minor carpentry, fixture swaps, flat-pack assembly, small fixes, where calling a separate trade for each is slow, expensive and hard to coordinate; one visit clears the lot. A specialist is the right call whenever the work is licensed or safety-critical: gas, major electrical (new circuits, the board), AC refrigerant work, structural changes, and proper waterproofing, these need the qualified trade, full stop, and a good handyman will tell you honestly when a job is out of their scope rather than bodge it. So sort your list: the small mixed stuff goes to a handyman in Dubai in one efficient visit, and anything licensed or safety-related gets the specialist. The red flag to avoid is a handyman who says yes to gas or major electrical, that's exactly the work that shouldn't be a general-jobs call.
The one-visit-for-the-small-stuff logic saved me a lot of coordination and money, a handyman knocked out a dozen little jobs in an afternoon that would've been five separate callouts. But yes, the gas and main electrical I always keep to the licensed trade, no exceptions.
