Why is my district cooling (Empower) bill so high?
My Empower bill seems really high even in months I'm barely home. I don't understand why it doesn't drop much when I travel. Can someone explain how district cooling billing works and how to bring it down?

The reason it barely drops when you're away is that a district-cooling bill has two parts:
- Consumption charge — the cooling you actually use (RT·h). This scales with usage and season.
- Capacity / demand charge — a *fixed* charge based on your unit's connected cooling capacity, payable whether or not you use it. This is the part that stays when you travel.
To cut the part you control (consumption): - Set a moderate temperature (~24°C) rather than very low. - Keep FCU filters clean — a choked coil runs longer for the same cooling. - Seal cool-air leaks (door gaps, curtains on sun-facing glass). - Use zoning — don't cool empty rooms.
The capacity charge is largely fixed by your contract, so focus your effort on consumption and coil efficiency.
The two-part thing confused me for ages too. Once I realised the fixed charge won't move, I focused on filters + 24°C and my consumption portion dropped noticeably.
